    Swim Teacher - All Abilities Courses / Swim Teacher - All Abilities Training Menu Back to Courses Student Handbook Code of Practice Group Bookings Online PD Funded Training Learner Portal Verify a Certificate Subscribe Course Enquiries Overview Royal Life Saving All Abilities is a nationally recognised course for swim teachers looking to gain specialist knowledge in teaching people living with a disability. Accreditation is valid for three years. The All Abilities course will deliver the skills and knowledge required to effectively and safely, teach swimming and water safety skills to people with a disability. It will provide information on people living with a disability, their experiences and needs, and how you can best support them in aquatic activities. Please note: Royal Life Saving Society NSW is not a CRICOS provider; it is unable to provide national training to overseas students holding a student visa. Delivery Mode Below are the steps and participant’s journey. Step 1: Book a course and complete/provide evidence for prerequisite requirements. The All Abilities course material is delivered via a blended mechanism, involving online learning and on the job assessments, alongside third-party observation from an approved RLS Workplace Supervisor. Candidates must have access to a computer and the internet to access these online modules. Step 2: Complete online modules. Upon fulfilling the prerequisite requirements, candidates will be required to complete a self-paced online knowledge component. Only those who have completed the online modules in full will be able to complete the on-the-job assessments. Step 3: Complete and Submit Step 3 of the All Abilities Workbook. The workbook involves an on-the-job assessment, which ensures the swim teacher can apply the skills learnt in the online course at their place of employment. The on-the-job component needs to be signed off by an approved RLS Workplace Supervisor for final approval. The Workplace Supervisor will then submit the application on the candidates behalf to - submissions@royalnsw.com.au Candidates are covered under Royal Life Saving Insurance until the final Statement of Attainment has been issued. Step 4: Complete Step 4 in the All Abilities Workbook. To obtain your Swim Teacher – All Abilities licence, you are required to complete this section alongside your Approved Royal Life Saving Workplace Supervisor, who will submit the Licence Application to Royal Life Saving - by email to submissions@royalnsw.com.au - on behalf of the candidate. Section 3 and 4 of the Unit Completion and Licence Workbook may be submitted at the same time if suitable. The amount of training is approximately 20 hours, comprising of: · Online learning and assessment: 8 hours · On-the-job teaching and assessment: 12 hours Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy This course requires a moderate to high level of Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills. ACSF 3 in Learning, Reading, Oral Communication and ACSF 2/3 level in Writing and Numeracy. View the Australian Core Skills Framework for more information. Prerequisites The following units from the SISSS00132 – Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skillset must be held, before commencing this course: · SISCAQU024 - Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills · SISCAQU025 - Teach water safety and survival skills As these units of competency are newly introduced to the aquatics industry, we are providing a number of expedited pathways to attain these pre-requisites, depending on the qualifications the candidate currently holds. Throughout the candidate’s enrolment process, they will be prompted to upload evidence of one of the above scenarios – it is important to ensure that units of competency are specifically listed. Once accepted, the candidate will be enrolled into the relevant coursework. Coursework will be distributed 1-2 business days from successful enrolment. Age Requirement Candidates wishing to complete this training are to be 16 years of age or turning 16 in the calendar within which the course is to be held to participate in this course. Outcomes The Royal Life Saving Swim Teacher – All Abilities course contains a unit of competency which is nationally recognised from the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training package. The Bronze Medallion course will enhance your personal survival skills while providing you with the knowledge and skills to develop the level of judgement‚ technique and physical ability required to safely perform water rescues. Pre-requisites While there are no prerequisites to enrol into this course, you are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability to perform the required aquatic skills. Delivery Mode: The Bronze Medallion course is completed by Facilitators via a Blended Delivery format, which allows candidates to work through self-paced theory content, before attending face to face training. Candidates will work through theory content via online modules, prior to attending face to face training, in order to complete practical assessments and demonstrate competence in the required areas. Only those who have completed the online module in full will be able to attend this course. (Study time: recommended 3-5 hours). On course, candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments (within time limits). Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, in addition to a Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion , candidates will receive a Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion Certificate. Learn lifesaving skills About Outback Lifesaver Outback Lifesaver program has been developed to provide children in and across our regional and remote communities with basic water safety and lifesaving skills. The program is aimed at children aged 7 to 12 years and is conducted in local pools and inland waterways in Term 1 and Term 4. The program seeks to increase the understanding of local aquatic environments and provide aquatic skills and proficiencies in a fun and enjoyable environment. All activities have been developed based on the characteristics and developmental capacities of children across various age categories. Outback Lifesaver Information Guide Working with local Councils and community groups, the program has been developed at a heavily discounted rate. The program is part of the Active Kids Voucher System which entitles participants to a certain amount off the price. What are the requirements for participation? All children and young people that wish to be part of the Outback Lifesaver Program must Be aged 7 – 12 years of age Complete a Swimming Assessment prior to commencing activities in the water; Have a parent/guardian present for the entire program; and Parents and Lifesavers must be willing to participate in an evaluation on the success of the program and skills learned Why should my child/ren participate in the program? This is a great opportunity to be a part of a new and exciting program, bringing Lifesaving to regional inland waterways and pools this summer. The program is structured specifically to ages 7 - 12 years old and the children's swimming abilities, and gradually teaches the children basic lifesaving skills required to be safer in and around regional aquatic environments - while having fun of course! Accreditation is valid for three years. This course will additionally cover the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. Please note: Royal Life Saving Society NSW is not a CRICOS provider; it is unable to provide national training to overseas students holding a student visa. Delivery Mode This course is delivered in a blended format; below are the steps and participant’s journey. Step 1 Book a course and complete Online Pre-Course Learning. Course schedules can be found in the "How to enrol" section below. Candidates are required to complete the Swim Teacher – Swimming and Water Safety Online Learning, prior to attending booked course. Only those who have completed the online modules in full will be able to attend the practical component of this course. Step 2 Attend and complete practical face-to-face course. Royal Life Saving’s Aquatic Technical Operations course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills relevant to the supervision and operation of an aquatic facility‚ plant and associated equipment, and the monitoring and maintaining of water quality. Please note: Royal Life Saving Society NSW is not a CRICOS provider; it is unable to provide national training to overseas students holding a student visa. Delivery Mode The Technical Operations course is delivered as a self-paced online course, with practical and workplace-based assessments to be completed on the job, with the guidance of a workplace supervisor. The online course is comprised of three theory modules, which can be accessed throughout your enrolment. The On-the-Job Workbooks contain assessment activities that are required to be completed at each candidate’s workplace following the completion of the online modules. If you wish to continue your enrolment beyond this period, continuation fees will apply. Prerequisites While there are no prerequisites to enrol into this course, sufficient aquatics experience is required to perform the tasks required of this course. Candidates will be asked to access and interpret workplace and legislative documentation to complete a range of tasks in the workplace. In addition, candidates must have access to a venue and an Approved Workplace Supervisor to mentor them through their assessment workbooks; on-the-job assessments form a critical aspect of a candidate’s assessment evidence.
